Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Monday, September 22, that a new post-mortem would be carried out as part of the continuing inquiry into the death of singer Zubeen Garg, amid allegations of foul play. The Assam CM announced at a press conference that the autopsy will be conducted at Guwahati Medical College on Tuesday morning, September 23, overseen by a team from AIIMS Guwahati.
Why fresh autopsy has been ordered?
Zubeen’s mortal remains will be transported to GMCH at 7:30 AM, according to CM Sarma, and the process should take one to two hours. The family has consented to the procedure, he continued.
According to CM Sarma, the autopsy is being carried out in response to public demand and to guarantee investigative openness.

Zubeen passed away in a scuba diving accident on September 19, 2025 in Singapore. Zubeen was in Singapore to participate in the three-day North East Festival, which was set to begin on Friday.
