Subaru Trailseeker EV wagon set for 2026 UK arrival

Subaru has confirmed that its all-electric Trailseeker EV estate is expected to go on sale in the UK in mid-2026 shortly after its United States debut.

The Trailseeker debuted at the recent New York International Motor Show, and is Subaru’s first fully in-house developed EV. As-per Subaru tradition, the Trailseeker gets symmetrical all-wheel drive and is powered by a twin-motor setup (one on each axle) producing an Impreza WRX-beating 375bhp, plus a 0-60mph time of 4.4 seconds.

Subaru has yet to release European WLTP consumption figures, or confirm whether the car will carry the Trailseeker name this side of the Atlantic. However, it says that the Trailseeker’s 74.4kWh lithium-ion battery returns a 260-mile range on the US’s EPA test cycle, and can be charged from 10-80% in 25 minutes using a 150kW charger.

An all-electric answer to the Outback estate, the Trailseeker gets several drive modes including snow/deep snow, mud/deep mud, and a hill descent control system. It is capable of towing loads of up to 1,588kg and gets the same 210mm inches of ground clearance as the electric Subaru Solterra SUV with which it shares the e-SGP platform.

An updated version of the Solterra also debuted at the New York event, and is expected to arrive to market ahead of the Trailseeker.

Alongside colour-coded body panels, a new front end, a new rear badge, and the addition of a spoiler, the Subaru Solterra now enjoys a 25% greater range courtesy of a new battery and 150kW charging capability even in sub-zero conditions.

The Solterra gets the same all-wheel-drive drivetrain as the Trailseeker. Moreover, both cars come with a 14-inch infotainment system – the biggest to be fitted to any Subaru ever – with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, plus a raft of driver assist features including pre-collision braking, emergency stop assist, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure alert. Further tech includes 15-watt phone charging up front for both passengers, and a pair of USB-C charge points in the rear.

Given that the Solterra and Trailseeker share their basic underpinnings with the all-electric Toyota bZ4X, it is possible that the Trailseeker could be a rebadged, more rugged version of the upcoming Toyota C-HR+. Subaru has said that by the end of 2027, it will have four EVs on sale globally with a third model scheduled for later in 2025.
