A group of care home grannies were given an extra treat with their afternoon tea – a wild performance from a male stripper.

The hunky fireman surprised pensioners at Willow Bank Care Home in Pershore, Worcs., during their Tea and Crumpets event earlier this month.

The entertainer was under strict instructions not to go ‘the full monty’ but delighted residents by stripping to his undies as they cheered him on.

The home caters for those suffering with dementia in various stages and said the cheeky performance had created a real ‘moment of joy’.

Staff had previously joked about getting a stripper but the OAPs were left gobsmacked when one turned up during their tea and crumpets hour on April 1.

Resident Lizzie, 87, said: “Well, I wasn’t expecting that with my cup of tea – but I’ve not laughed so much in years.”

Paul Chambers, dementia and well-being lead at the home, said: “Our activity coordinator was talking with the residents and being a bit cheeky.

“They said I’ll get a stripper and they loved it.

“They’re all adults and as long as they all consent to it, we thought, why not?

“We did have a fireman, we did give him restrictions and limitations on how far to take it. He was fabulous, he only went down to his undies.

“It’s not something that happens regularly, it’s unconventional. But they are adults and they still laugh about it now.

“All our adults have some form of dementia, from the mid to the latter, so for them to enjoy and remember parts of it is helping them.

“And of course give them a good time. The home manager is quite trusting, she gives us free rein. The families love it as we do something a bit different.”

Home manager Carole Hall added: “We always aim to create moments of joy and connection at Willow Bank, and this event certainly did that.

“Our residents love a bit of fun, and this gave them something completely different to talk about.

“We’re still hearing about it at breakfast.”
