Gaurav Khanna created history after lifting the trophy of Celebrity MasterChef. However, his journey in the cooking reality show wasn’t an easy one. He had his share of fights, laughter and applause. However, for Gaurav, road to winning the trophy was a little bumpier, as he is colour blind, and it became a challenge for him to create some lip-smacking dishes.
Gaurav Khanna talked about his colour blindness
Recently, Gaurav Khanna sat down for a brief interaction with Viral Bhayani, during which he was questioned about colour blindness. The actor said that he has been dealing this since birth as it is a genetics problem. Recalling his childhood and how he would paint, the actor said that he would memorise the names on the colour tube, and then he would use them. He would ask his mother and sister about the colour name of things before painting in the school’s class. He said:
“Colour blindness ka problem mereko humesha se hi tha, yeh genetics hota hai, toh mai kya karta tha jo colour tube ke uper naam likha hote the na ki yeh lemon yellow hai, yeh olive green hai. Toh mai vo padh ke fir painting karta tha. Jab bhi mai koi painting banata tha. Toh ghar mein apni sister se ya mother se puch leta tha ki kya colour hai.”
Gaurav revealed that one day, he was painting while his mother and sister were sleeping. He was trying to draw a ship in stormy sea. However, in overconfidence, he thought he knew all about the colours and would be able to make it. But, his attempt to add gloominess to the painting turned out to be a disaster, as the colour of the sea became purple and the sky turned purple instead of blue.
Gaurav added that he loves challenging himself and face similar challenges during his Celebrity MasterChef journey. He stated that in the challenged where they had to replicate flowers, he wasn’t able to differentiate between the colours. He was quoted as saying:
“Vo jo zidd thi mere is show mein bhi kaam aayi ki kahi episode mein na mujhe flower ke colour hi nai samjh aa rahe the jisko hume dekh kar replicate karna tha toh ab us photocopy mein bhi colours thure change ho jate hai. Ab mujhe samjh hi nahi aa raha hai ki colours kya hai, flowers konse wale hai. Sab similar lag rahe hai, sabke petal shape same hai. Toh vo ek challenge hai, aur apne ko challenge kar ke aage badege toh vo jada acha hai.”
When Farah Khan made fun of Gaurav Khanna’s colour blindness
During one of the episodes, where the contestants had to make roasted chicken, Farah Khan seemingly took a dig at Gaurav due to his dish’s colour being off from the othersrest of them. When Gaurav admitted that he is ‘colour blind’ on national television, Farah immediately passed a remark, “What rubbish?” To this, Gaurav said:
“Kuch log jaante hai ki mujhe colour blindness ka problem hai.”
