Sunday’s general election will be the most crucial since Moldova gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Moscow is doing all it can to divert the country from its European course. If a flood of videos on TikTok is to be believed, the people of Moldova are currently living through a reign of terror. These short videos claim that the country is being governed by a “dictatorship” of its pro-European President, Maia Sandu, and the ruling liberal-conservative Action and Solidarity Party (PAS). They also allege that this “puppet regime” has sold itself to the EU, NATO and US billionaire George Soros with a view to destroying Moldova’s agriculture, “introducing LGBTQ ideology” and leading the country into a war against the Russian Federation. Israeli forces shot dead two Palestinians in the occupied West Bank village of Tammun on Thursday, the military said, accusing the men of preparing an attack. In a joint operation, special forces from the border police, the army and the Shin Bet security agency “eliminated a terrorist cell that was planning to carry out an imminent terrorist attack”, the military said in a statement, AFP reported. The military said the two Palestinians were suspected of planning to carry out “shooting and explosive attacks” from the village, and were affiliated to Islamic Jihad, a Hamas ally. It added that Israeli forces shot and killed the two men after encircling the building in which they had sought refuge. Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967. The Palestinian health ministry in the territory said it had been notified of the men’s deaths and identified them as Mohammed Suleiman, 29, and Alaa Joudat, 20. It said Israeli forces still had Suleiman and Joudat’s bodies. Tammun mayor Sameer Bisharat told AFP the two men

A woman held in prison in Iran for the past six months for writing anti-government slogans died Thursday after falling into a coma, rights groups said, accusing authorities of neglect. Somayeh Rashidi, 42, died in hospital, state television said, adding her death was caused by medical problems that existed before her arrest in April. The Norway-based Hengaw rights group however said her illness and coma had been caused by the denial of medical treatment while held in Qarchak prison, a jail for women outside Tehran notorious for its poor conditions. It said she had been arrested for writing pro-protest slogans in a neighborhood of Tehran. Rashidi was initially held at the city’s Evin prison and then moved to Qarchak, like many other women, following the Israeli bombing of Evin during the 12-day war in June. “Neglect worsened her condition, leading to seizures and eventual coma,” Hengaw said. The Iran Human Rights group, also based in Norway, said Rashidi “became seriously ill in prison, but despite repeated pl

The sources explained that there are ongoing contacts with the Hamas leadership through key mediators and other parties to reach a comprehensive agreement on ending the war, reconstruction, lifting the (Israeli) blockade, delivery of aid, and on how the Gaza Strip will be governed in the future. The sources stressed that Hamas is willing to study all options to end the “bloodbath” in Gaza.
