Los Angeles CA (SPX) Apr 14, 2025 Orbital Watch, a first-of-its-kind initiative produced by Space Systems Command’s (SSC) Front Door, will provide critical, unclassified threat information as a resource to assist companies across the commercial sector in developing capabilities pre-designed to defend against current and emerging threats. Front Door is a first-step portal for early-stage startups, non-traditional partners, and other commercial ve ndors to engage with the U.S. Space Force and serves as a central point of connection and useful information exchange for industry and government stakeholders. “The launch of Orbital Watch marks a critical step forward in how we share timely and tailored threat information with our commercial partners,” said Lt. Gen. Philip Garrant, SSC Commander. “As the space domain grows more contested, collaboration is not just beneficial-it’s essential. This initiative enhances our ability to protect national interests while reinforcing the trust and transparency that underpin a

Los Angeles CA (SPX) Apr 14, 2025 Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman gave insights into a new, soon-to-be-released International Partnership Strategy to unify like-minded nations’ efforts in the space domain during his keynote at the 40th Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, April 9. Saltzman described this strategy as a critical evolution in response to growing threats and rapid technological advancements, declaring space to be “the central nervous system of joint and combined operations.” The document will serve as a roadmap for building a “seamless multinational space coalition,” with core objectives to empower partners, improve interoperability, and fully integrate allied capabilities. “Space superiority is now a prerequisite for battlefield success,” Saltzman stated. “Regardless of whether or not you believe space superiority will win the next war; it must be recognized that we will most certainly lose without it.” Saltzman noted that space capabilities are integral to global military operati

San Antonio TX (SPX) Apr 15, 2025 NASA’s Lucy spacecraft is 6 days and less than 50 million miles (80 million km) away from its second close encounter with an asteroid; this time, the small main belt asteroid Donaldjohanson. This upcoming event represents a comprehensive “dress rehearsal” for Lucy’s main mission over the next decade: the exploration of multiple Trojan asteroids that share Jupiter’s orbit around the Sun. Lucy’s first asteroid encounter – a flyby of the tiny main belt asteroid Dinkinesh and its satellite, Selam, on Nov. 1, 2023 – provided the team with an opportunity for a systems test that they will be building on during the upcoming flyby. Lucy’s closest approach to Donaldjohanson will occur at 1:51pm EDT on April 20, at a distance of 596 miles (960 km). About 30 minutes before closest approach, Lucy will orient itself to track the asteroid, during which its high-gain antenna will turn away from Earth, suspending communication. Guided by its terminal tracking system, Lucy will autonomously ro
