A U.S. federal judge has ruled that Google violated antitrust laws by monopolizing key segments of the online advertising market, dealing a major development in the government’s ongoing push to rein in Big Tech’s dominance over digital infrastructure. In a decision handed down by Judge Leonie Brinkema of the U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Virginia, […] The post Google Found to Have Illegally Monopolized Digital Ad Tech Market, U.S. Court Rules appeared first on Innovation Village | Technology, Product Reviews, Business.
On April 17 (Thursday), Judge Leonie Brinkema of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia ruled against Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) in the antitrust case concerning its advertising technology business, casting a shroud of uncertainty over the future of the tech giant’s online advertising business. Brinkema will now need to determine what remedies to impose on Google to restore fair market competition. The plaintiffs sought to force Google to divest its Ad Manager, which includes the company’s publisher ad server and its ad exchange, to restore competition in the market. This outcome is far more likely following Judge Brinkema’s ruling. This is a developing story happening alongside a similar case against Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META), which is being sued by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for allegedly monopolizing social media through its acquisition of Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014. This trial against Google began in September 2024, and the plaintiffs in the lawsuit comprise the Depar
Microsoft is bringing several changes to the myriad of devices that Xbox gamers use to engage with the platform. These changes include often requested features for the Xbox mobile app and opening up the Stream Your Own Game feature to more machines. However, the new ways players can access remote play might feel like a downgrade to some. The Xbox community has long asked for the ability to manage account actions within the Xbox app, such as being able to buy games and DLC, sign up for Game Pass, and redeem perks offered by Microsoft. The company has been listening and will be adding all of these features “soon,” although beta users can test these out before they’re made available to the rest of the user base on Android and iOS. Meanwhile, Xbox consoles will finally be able to make use of Stream Your Own Game, which was previously only available on Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Fire devices and the Meta Quest headset. Players can visit their game library to see which of their games are available by looking for a c
Discord users in the United Kingdom and Australia may soon have to navigate through a new age verification process. The company is currently listing the new process as an “experimental” feature, and for now, it’s only available in those countries. It’s a response to governments in the UK and Australia passing laws meant to restrict under aged users from accessing sensitive content online. Discord says users will be prompted to verify their age when encountering two situations in particular. The first is when users “encounter content flagged by our sensitive media filter,” while the second is “when you try to change your sensitive content filter settings.” While the rollout appears limited, it’s not hard to imagine that having to pass some form of age verification will become a requirement to even start using the service. When a user runs into the situations described by Discord, there will be two options presented to them to verify their age. The first option will be to perform a face scan, which will require
