A Coventry law graduate has secured a place in the Miss England grand final after receiving widespread recognition for her community service.

Sharandeep Sahota won the Miss Coventry crown earlier this year and will represent the city at the national final in Wolverhampton this November.

She received nearly 25,000 votes on the Miss England public vote, placing her in the top ten standout contestants in August and earning an automatic place in the final.

Speaking after her win, Sharandeep said: “I’m incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support from my community.

“Winning the public vote with nearly 25,000 votes is just incredible and a testament to the belief you all have in me.

“From receiving my semi-finalist sash in June to now being crowned Miss Coventry, this journey has been a dream.

“I promise to represent our city, our culture, and our community with pride and dedication.”

The 21-year-old gained a 2:1 Law LLB Honours Degree and has worked at Maya and Co Solicitors on Foleshill Road whilst studying.

She has cared for her disabled relatives since the age of seven and founded the Young Carers’ Council with the Carers Trust Heart of England to ensure young carers like her in the city are represented.

Sharandeep continues to pursue her legal ambitions while supporting community initiatives across Coventry.

Sharandeep said: “My passion for advocacy and justice grows with every case and charity cause I join, and I’m eager to bring this real-world experience to my studies and, eventually, my career as a barrister.”

In early 2025, she was one of the youngest ever recipients of Coventry City Council’s Good Citizen Award, presented in recognition of her voluntary work providing meals for the homeless and supporting young carers.

Reflecting on the award, she said:

“It’s great to be recognised in Coventry for the work I’ve done to help my community and to know that it is making a difference.”

“I’ve lived in this city all my life and if this award can inspire others, particularly other young Sikh girls like me to go out and get involved in voluntary work, then it would be fantastic.

“It not only helps the community but it also improves your communication and sense of humility and empathy.

“In Sikhism, we have something called Seva, which means selfless service; it’s something that’s always been a big part of my life growing up. I’m very proud to have received this award.”

Sharandeep Sahota will compete in the Miss England final on November 20 and November 21 at the Grand Station in Wolverhampton.
