The new M4 MacBook Air helped Apple regain momentum and enjoy faster growth than any other computer manufacturer in the world in the first quarter of this year. While the company has received a boost, a new report claims that the growth will not last for a longer period due to the imposition of import tariffs by the Trump administration.
Apple led the Q1 PC market with strong M4 MacBook Air sales, but looming tariffs may impact future growth
Apple has found itself in the clutches of the new import policies, which could allow it to increase the prices of its products, ranging from iPhones to MacBooks, and so much more. While the company is being given a break for now, it is working with the office to secure a deal that would prevent it from increasing the price of its gadgets.
The M4 MacBook Air is an exciting upgrade, especially with the new Sky Blue color options. The machine is also received well by the tech community, suggesting that it is the Mac that users should buy. Since the base model of the device starts at $999, it might just be the perfect Mac for you, but since the company is working to free itself from hefty import tariffs, the future looks quite bleak and uncertain.
According to a market intelligence report from Counterpoint Research, overall PC shipments grew 6.7 percent YoY in the first quarter of this year. While the overall industry growth is good, Apple’s personal growth topped the charts with a massive 17 percent increase YoY. The gain in shipments is way more than that of any PC manufacturer, and Lenovo was the only manufacturer to see a double-digit increase.
Global PC shipments grew 6.7% YoY in Q1 2025 to reach 61.4 million units, according to Counterpoint Research’s preliminary data. The growth was mainly driven by PC vendors accelerating shipments ahead of US tariffs and the increasing adoption of AI-enabled PCs amid the end of Windows 10 support […]
Apple and Lenovo delivered strong performances in the quarter, largely due to new product launches and market dynamics. Apple experienced 17% YoY growth in shipments, driven by its AI-capable M4-based MacBook series. Lenovo’s 11% growth reflected its expansion into AI-enabled PCs and its diversified product portfolio.
In terms of market share, though, Apple went up from 9 percent to 10 percent, showing a limited gain in overall shipments, potentially due to the new M4 MacBook Air launch. Counterpoint Research also claims that an uptick in demand in the first quarter might not last long as Trump’s import tariffs would eventually take shape.
This surge may be short-lived, as inventory levels are likely to stabilize in the next few weeks. The impact of the US tariffs is expected to dampen the growth momentum in 2025 […]
Despite recent US exemptions removing tariffs on laptops, uncertainty persists as the Trump administration is planning to impose new duties on semiconductors and other tech products within the next quarter.
It remains to be seen if Apple will meet a resolution regarding the heavy import tariffs, but it seems that the company will be unable to steer clear of it. We will share more details on the M4 MacBook Air’s impact on the overall market share and its demand, so do keep an eye out for more details.
