Before the Nintendo Switch 2 was announced, then-President-elect Donald J. Trump revealed that there will be tariffs on all imported goods coming to the United States, and many have already feared that this will affect the console’s future sales.
Nintendo hails from Japan and manufactures its technology from the Land of the Rising Sun as well as nearby Asian countries like Vietnam. These countries are affected by the tariffs.
That being said, Nintendo already promised that there will be ample stocks of the Switch 2 once released, but there are speculations that the country may either limit its availability or ask for a higher sale price.

April’s start was a harrowing one for the different industries in the United States who rely on imported goods from countries outside the country for manufacturing, production, assembly and more. This also applies to foreign companies who have a massive presence in the country like Nintendo.
The Switch 2 is one of the most anticipated tech and gaming devices of 2025 as it has been a long due successor to the iconic hybrid handheld and tabletop gaming console from Nintendo. However, when the tariffs took effect earlier this month, fans, the gaming industry, analysts, and more feared that this device will be severely affected by President Trump’s tax for imported goods.
According to The Verge, Nintendo is affected by this, and initially, there were many fears that there would be another stock issue for the Switch 2 because of these tariffs alone. There is still no official word from Nintendo regarding the tariff’s effect on their supply chain in the future.
However, there was a recent silver lining amidst all these as President Trump imposed a 90-day pause on the tariffs, and according to the report, Nintendo may seize this opportunity to bring Switch 2 stocks into the country and altogether avoid the tariffs.
Trump’s Tariffs: The Effects on Gaming and Tech
There is no denying that Trump’s tariffs against imported goods coming into the US are changing the entire tech landscape as many companies have already opted to pause the sales of specific products to avoid facing higher taxes. With most of the gaming industry’s consumer tech goods being made in China, they are the ones that are to suffer from these effects.
For the Nintendo Switch 2 alone, fans are already blaming Donald J. Trump for the delays on its preorders as Nintendo revealed that it had to temporarily move the dates because of the uncertainty on these tariffs.
While the proposed solution of the US, particularly the Commerce Department, is for companies to move their production and assembly lines to the United States, not all companies have the luxury to do so.
Nintendo is looking to maintain its developments in Japan and Vietnam, and these tariffs are all but inevitable for a foreign company such as itself.
